An Orblite's Facebook Experience
November 17th 2007 04:59
It was just under a month ago that I began my brand new twice-a-day addiction. At the beginning of this year, I was doing the same thing with Orble. Checking the email for comments, posting like once a day. It was definitely a worthwhile habit, and managed to replace some older, less sociable ones. Its interesting to know I can have the mentality to take any thoughts for the day and turn them into publishable works.
This part of my character has been well developed with these two blogs. Unfortunately, interest dwindled and I found myself back in the regular routine by the end of last summer.
There seems to be something in its place this time around.
Yes, Facebook. I've got to admit, all these little addons they have don't really appeal to me. To be honest, I can't see how they can appeal to anyone. I have had three - or is it 4? - separate invites to put in the 'sneakers application' (due to the old hiphop heads that can't get enough of the stuff), and four different group invitations. I denied all of them.
I seem to be a bit different on Facebook as I'm not in any groups, I have looked through them and found nothing of interest. Nothing worthwhile in music or movies, not even a coffee and cigarettes appreciation society (that isn't all about quitting). I'd start one, but it would probably be to specific to get any members that actually knew what I was on about. eg writers of screen and scores - and it has to be both...
So what do I actually use it for? I mean, after the initial fun of finding old mates, catching up and then realising why you don't really see them anymore? For current friends, I enjoy posting whatever I feel like at the time on their pages and then have a laugh over it at the pub. For people I know who have seen me on Facebook and ask why I'm not their friend, I like to use a mixture of beaurocracy and diplomacy.
For example, "I'm just using it to keep up with old friends that I don't really see around anymore, not really wanting to have too many friends."
So basically, I treat facebook like orble. Write whatever comes to mind, every so often wondering why I don't really have many friends there. Oh yeah, if anyone here is interested and on facebook, add me. If I don't have the faintest who you are, don't be surprised if you're denied. No 1 prerequisite is to have been writing for Orble for at least 6 months. I don't know any of you new guys (? write me sometime?).
I'm under Alex Mewton. Treat this info with sincerity. And piss of whoever has been messing with my photos. Not cool.
Much love etc.

I only have time for Orble (and little at that)... so don;t really know about 'facebook,' ...but am glad to see your 'face' back around these parts...
