Big city cats

Good to see I still have that ubiquitous mentality.
I'll be encompassing 9 countries over the next month or two, and its going ahead only by the will of my want to encompass and absorb the places of interest that have an influence both before, and after, actually being in the place.
Some say you need to live and work in another country to really get the gist of how things happen, I am not too sure whether to agree or disagree with this statement. Maybe disagree... one should be using their time for leisure rather than competing in the international and local job and rental market. Maybe agree... you learn alot more about the culture of a place in doing so, although hesistant to fully immerse oneself due to the knowledge it may not last much longer than a year or two.
After all, you'll never find another place like home.
My line of thought when getting out into the wide world tends to involve two legs with which to cruise through big cities, and a tour group or guide with which to rummage through the back of beyond. The tourist thing isn't especially necessary in bigger towns, just to make sure you get accommodation close to as much as possible - and explore from there.
Its the type of travelling that works well in places like Rome, Lisbon, Madrid and London - with a little help from Google Maps. Sprawling metropolie (is that the plural?) like LA, and cities on guard against western-style modernism like Casablanca, could do with a few extra pitter patter with which to explore in safety and relative comfort.
I'll be back around the Mediterranean this time, although completely different parts of it, with a fair wack of the Middle East to taste. To see what went on the last time, check out the namesake in my Wordpress blog.
