Existential Inclinations of the Middle Youth

July 25th 2009 04:15
Beyond everything generation after generation afflicts upon the world, and what the world afflicts upon them, there is a common ground of neutrality where all external forces can be nullified. Between the age of 21 to 35, everyone will find themselves a trend setter and trail blazer - if only for 15 minutes out of those 15 years.

Being middle-youthed means one is at a time in life where it doesn't matter what has happened in the past, and it barely matters what will happen in the future. Everything is here, right now. After two decades of wanting to be at the centre of the universe, it can be noticed that you now ARE the centre of the universe. You have reached the point in life where everything you hold dear is always close at hand, from hobbies and interests to studies and work.

Of course, the speciality of the middle youthed is looking after themselves. We all know who number one is. Yet it doesn't matter if they stray from the beaten path and explore more rugged terrains of life, they are never too far from a place they know they belong. Maybe not so much as the middle-aged, yet the more acute understanding of self can allow for a focus that will make the older and younger take note of the time of life when our minds and bodies have achieved a sort of equilibrium. Something we as humans strive for in our youth, and wonder what happened to in our older years.

The problems in life that we face can always be solved existentially, even if these problems won't affect us too much in our lifetimes. Climate change, war, cancer, sexually transmitted infections - we are here to help. Right here, right now. Specialists in sciences and the arts that are in their 20's and 30's know fully well that they are the future in their chosen arena of expertise - still, they recognise they may not be here tomorrow. If there's a problem, no matter how big, we're here to solve it. Why not now?

Impatient mayhaps? Thats one way of looking at it. Self-centred possibly? I'll have to agree with you there. Because if society isn't focusing on the middle-youth, then where the hell are they looking?
