First Impressions Last
April 21st 2007 16:18
So here we are, having a shindig after attending a tapas and sangria showdown. Glen the cricket-bat-at-a-hockey-game player seemed the epitomy of sobriety at the start of the night, as did Ian the gatecrashing IT guy.
Alas by the end of the night they are two drunk skunks who seem unable to control their alcohol consumption.
I see myself in the mirror, and instead of attempting a DeNiro "Are you talkin to me?" scene I heartachingly realise: I'm just as bad as them.
I forgive Glen and Ian easily. And I believe it is because at the beginning of the night they were respectable, youthful, sober men. Hence my second epiphany for the night: so was I!
Seeing yourself looking like a homeless and derilict bum can derive some negative connotations, but it's good to see yourself in your drinking buddies' eyes.
"Sure you're drunk now. things have changed since you decided to inherit your old folks' love of drinking."
"But my parents don't get this drunk."
"I know. That's why you do."
Okay maybe its better to note the fact that the first few impressions for the night is how everyone remembers each other. Until the night is over, and depending on if anyone did some midnight blue streak on which they will be remembered by till the drinking days are over.
Not being sober freaked me out tonight. I guess I should appreciate that point.
