Frustrated Authority
September 5th 2009 08:36
So much time, so little space. Such is the dilemma for those of us stuck in middle management roles, with the realisation that the contract did not give us the world but gave us the right amount of money to purchase it. And time, as for all workers, equals money.
Anxiety abounds as we begin to take heed of our limits - who we are capable of displaying authority over, and who we have actually been designated authority over. It is often the case that one is moreso than the other, and one may self criticize and analyze when pondering the fact that we have been given so much, or so little, power.
An acute sense of loneliness sets in when taking note of just how far money can go. After all is spent and done, contrary to popular belief, happiness will not take over from any sense of emptiness. Call me cynical but those who come to expect anything more than heightened workplace satisfaction will find themselves highly emotionally disappointed.
Unless of course you are a follower of the Pentacostal church in which case go ahead, scheme your life away.
On a world scale, the lower echalons of society will always be the most populated. At least as far as I can see. They have the highest number of the international population in which they feel they can relate their circumstances to, and the fighting spirit that leaves little room for anxiety and loneliness.
This, in turn, frustrates the authorities and officials that have the right to enforce laws and condemn crime. The authorities have alot to deal with, and organisations that act as sort of international advocacy groups (United Nations, Amnesty International, Medicins Sans Frontiers) possibly have the most coveted jobs for middle classes with mid-range political views the world over.
But then again, with no corrupt governments chances are the middle classes will be of the greatest population the world over - as long as the governments have a touch of secular humanism to their sense of power. The human race will be like having a beer gut, larger in the middle.
Maybe beer will solve our problems? As it is at this point Saturday night in my part of the world, I will now make it my mission to find out. Tonight, my friends, we will try to take over the world! *burp*
