Rich Ghetto Boys
February 4th 2008 05:42
Since the rise in popularity of all things ghetto, from poor American colloquialism to poor white trash, all you have to do is walk to the closest shopping mall to find a rich ghetto boy.
They are easily spotted. The look on their face and the loose wearing of pre-warn clothes suggests the favela is two blocks south thereof. Alas, as fashion has it, these clothes were bought from the closest Glue or General Pants store, maybe even a skateshop, and will cost you top dollar, head to toe.
One obvious sign of a rich ghetto boy is their shoe laces, worn especially loose to suggest that they were bought five years ago when their feet were one size smaller. Another is 'hardcore bling' such as chains that hang down to your thang-thang, suggesting phatness without the weight gain.
If you actually get to know one, it can be found that they want to be nice guys but don't really know how to. In a rhyme they will constantly talk about "money and honeys." At the dentist they'll ask if they can get a medicare rebate for their grill (false metal teeth).
Regardless of any violent posturing, they really are just the new era of old money yuppies. They would wear shiny three piece suits if society dictated so, but instead society has given them the freedom to look expensively underpaid.
I tried to google the header for this post in order to come up with some photos, but the topic does not really seem to get much press right now. I would have taken a photo on the street, if only I could have a bit more of a quickdraw with my mobile phone camera. And who knows what would happen if the subject caught me in the act.
Maybe if I did it with a gangsta lean. Or out of mere curiosity.
But no, I can't help but snicker when I see these people. And nervous laughs and grimey facials aside, you can bet they won't smile back.
