Slow burning trends
October 23rd 2008 02:07
2004. Unemployed, broke, and by the end of the year no girlfriend. It really doesn't seem very long ago, and to a certain degree I have continued in this state for the past four years.
It takes a while, but it still happened. With a surprising lack of regret in relation to my past and brimming with positivity when looking to the future I managed to keep myself on the right side of family, friends and the law.
Having a negative attitude to these three aspects of society didn't last long, and the negativity came into my life abruptly. Comme ci comme ca, easy come easy go etc. Like a set of clothes that are in fashion for one summer, up in flames it went as I came to reject the peer pressure towards illicit drugs, junkie friends and miscellaneous criminal activities.
(Mind you I'll still provide my bladder relief in public once in a full moon if need be)
Moving on since then, there were certain aspects of personality that remained, came to be more developed, and will continue to do so for a long time. You know, taking things like music and creative writing, studying and a career a bit more seriously.
The mentality has become something I am proud of, which was improbable 4 or 5 years ago. I guess what I'm saying is the rags to riches story doesn't have to be from poor to rich. In the same way success does not have to be measured by how many friends or how much money you have.
Like investing in a set of clothes that will be fashionable until you outgrow them, in our lives happiness is a slow burning trend - so keep burning.
Just don't burn both ends.

Its a saying... don't burn both ends of the candle, the candle being a metaphor for life.
